The theater opened October 18, 1985 and was, for a time, the largest theater screen-wise in Pinellas County. The St. Petersburg Times described it as having "all the character of a cinderblock warehouse." The theater closed in 2000 and both it and the neighboring Drive-In Cinema were demolished for a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Interesting that a 12 screen multiplex should be demolished after only 14 years. Of course here in the Pittsburgh Area, we have the infamous Loews 20 North Versailles which opened in 1999 and closed in 2001. We also have the Star City 14/Screenworks 14 which only lasted a few years too (and was a really nice theatre).

I think the area may have just become overscreened. If I recall my Cinematouring around that area there were a bunch of other theatres within a couple of miles.

If i recall correctly,Nick told me Regal opened a 20 plex for a couple of years before closing it.I think a lot of cities are overscreened no matter what the size of the city.

On the Google Map Photo it’s down a bit to the southeast from the red dot at the Wal Mart site, correct?

United Artists Theaters owned these theaters.

I worked here in the summer of ‘87. It was a great place to work. A very nice lady named Paige was my boss.Great memories.

United Artist theatres did not last long here in the area of St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park and Largo, Florida. I had a friend of mine go to work at the Pinellas Park theatre as a non-union projectionist. One day the theatre manager was walking through the projection booth while my friend was starting one of the shows. At the start, the picture was slightly out of focus. When he reached over to adjust the focus the manager asked him just what did he think he was doing. When he replied that he was focusing the picture, the manager said, “ You do not EVER touch that knob. It is pre-set and you do not mess with it.” That was the day he decided he did not wish to work for UNITED ARTISTS. This may shed some light on some of the reasons that United Artist Theatres did not last long in this area.
